What is gait analysis, and can it help me?
Gait analysis involves studying the timing and biomechanics of how one walks. The objective of performing a gait analysis is to identify any abnormalities in your walking, thereby allowing the therapist to specifically address it with treatment or exercise. Depending on your situation, this may be included in the initial assessment or reassessment with the SmartLife physiotherapist or chiropodist.
At TownCenter Rehab Clinic, gait analysis is performed with a unique set-up of timed video-recording and observation to capture every part of your movement. Your therapist will then use a special program that helps to evaluate your walking quality, including walking pattern, speed, normal/abnormalities, balance etc. This analysis is a complementary aspect of assessment for many lower-leg pathologies, including and not limited to:
- Post-operative hip/knee/foot/ankle
- Low back pain
- Sports injuries
- Sprain/strain of hip/knee/foot/ankle
- Patella dislocations
